The museum which is set in Charlie Chaplin’s last home in Corsier sur Vevey is dedicated to both his life and work. Centdegrés Suisse, led by Albert Schrurs, mainly found its inspiration in Chaplin’s filmography, characters and achievements. For The tramp restaurant’s design, centdegrés referred to films including Modern Times, The Kid, Night Out, Gold Rush and to numerous scenes of films where involving Chaplin in either serving or eating. The floor plan and tables disposition are also inspired from the Chaplin films. eventually by combining bricks with wood panels, steel hand rails, and carefully chosen furniture and details, centdegrés achieved to set a thrilling atmosphere, which extends the visitor’s experience of the museum, where “Chaplin is welcoming everyone in his personal home”.

The restaurant is set in the renovated barn of the property. For the ticket/gift shop which is set in the property’s former garages, centdegrés simply designed a project inspired by garages, where tools hang on the walls, and the centre is occupied by on wheel movable tools/furniture, thus allowing the space to react and adapt to varying visitors flow. “We wanted the visitor to feel Chaplin’s presence in a didactic and natural way while avoiding clichés. The fact that the museum is set in Chaplin’s personal home is celebrated with details such as his movie-posters are incrusted behind the wood-panelling”.
