Enzo Catellani: Medousê

Enzo Catellani lights up the outdoor spaces at Light + Building 2016 with the new lamp collection that recreate the same warmth and atmosphere as indoor lights.

Enzo Cattelani: Medouse
Enzo Catellani has designed his first collection of outdoor lamps for Catellani & Smith’s participation at the Light+Building 2016 trade fair in Frankfurt.

Nowadays, living spaces are moving outside into terraces and gardens, creating extensions of the house. This has given rise to the need to produce lighting fixtures that are able to recreate the same warmth and atmosphere as indoor lights. Catellani’s goal is to create a collection of indoor lamps suitable for outdoor installation.

Glass plays a starring role in this collection. An industrial glass has been used, which is shaped by hand before being completely cooled: beauty is combined with the latest technology for outdoor lighting.

The most striking piece in the collection is Medousê, a light made of two overlapping glass hemispheres. When switched off the light is green, perfectly complementing the surrounding landscape; when switched on it turns white.

In cooperation with Architettura Sonora, Medousê is also available with integrated audio speakers, thereby creating a high fidelity object which has been crafted using the characteristic manual techniques.
