Technology meets tradition

The chair designed by Brodie Neill mixes traditional materials (e.g. solid wood) with advanced technology – from CNC machines to solid modelling – to avoid using moulds.

Coming to Milan for the third year running, Brodie Neill and his Made in Ratio presented the Alpha chair.
As is now customary with this London brand, the design is a mix of traditional materials and technology: the chair is made of solid wood, worked with cutting-edge techniques.

For this chair, Made in Ratio explored the use of CNC machinery, a refined tool for production and more – and not only for rapid prototyping – and 3D modelling, to avoid reliance on a mould.

The invisible joins between legs, seat and back allows all the chair components to merge seamlessly into one fluidly formed piece. The name, Alpha, is an overt reference to the A shape created by the joined legs and back.
