ZPSTUDIO, Diogenèa. A tale of bowls
With its project “Diogènea. A tale of bowls”  ZPSTUDIO presents a reflection on the archetypal forms related to food, and a tribute to the essence of an object, the bowl, (in homage to Diogenes) that becomes a matrix to experiment different meanings in relation to the materials and workmanship that have been used to create it.

In a nice studio along via Ventura Diogenèa showcased a number of 20 bowls of identical shape, made in limited edition by fine italian artisans in 20 different materials (from marble to crochet, from marsh grass to charred wood, from gold-leaf to Imprunetan terracotta from Impruneta, from cork to willow plaiting).

Each one of these materials carries within a tale of technology, territories, handycraft traditions and prestigious products. This multiplicity of stories conveys the object an extra asset, despite its “design level zero” aesthethics: an essential form, both  archetypal and contemporary.

The individual tales of the objects are entrusted to the artisans themselves, through short interviews collected during the months when the exhibition was being produced.

The different materials and processes also suggest possible applications of the object, for example, the gray terracotta from the Brioni furnace, is very porous due to the process of “closed oven” double firin,g and therefore is perfect to retain essences.

“Then – as Eva Parigi from ZPSTUDIO explains – we asked Giovanni Sammarco, artisan perfumer, to select for us an essence you can test on this type of clay, that recalls the natural environment; so will will have as part of the exhibit the Vitrum essence, based on vetiver and rose, and the Bond-T one, with cocoa, patchouli and osmanthus.”
