Guests at the Accademia di architettura di Mendrisio on Thursday April, 23 Mauricio Pezo (Angol, 1973) and Sofia von Ellrichshausen (Bariloche, 1976) are the two founders of Pezo von Ellrichshausen, established in 2002 in Concepcion, Chile, and claimed as one of the most promising offices on the American contemporary architectural scene.
For the most part Pezo and von Ellrichshausen worked at single-family houses but also producing numerous ephemeral pavilions, revealing how its interests extend beyond architecture and explore fields closer to art installations. Year 2008 they have been curators of the Chilean Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. They teach regularly in Chile at the Universidad del Bío-Bío in Concepción and have been Visiting Professors at Cornell University, Ithaca-NY, in 2009 and at the The University of Texas in Austin from 2011 to the present.
