Architecture as furniture
#21 The two sisters who run the architectural studio Frier Architecture are now launching at Salone Satellite their first table series called Antilope. #salone2015
For their furniture designs the two Frier sisters have founded the design company frier&frier enabling them to explore the architectural and the furniture scale mutually.
The tables Antilope have a timeless Nordic appearance, they are handcrafted in oiled oak with brass joints and they are produced in two types; a coffee table and a side table. The formal expression of the tables point to the future but is rooted in the classical Danish furniture tradition.
They seem to be moving and with their asymmetrical and organic form they inspire an increased awareness and warmth in the experience of togetherness. They possess a feminine elegance and simultaneously express a dynamic force. The table top is lifted and cantilevered over the slender legs. And the form invites for new table- and seating arrangements.
The light expression of the tables makes them easy to move around and functional in use. The materiality of the legs is massive oiled oak and the table top is thick oak veneer with a core of mdf wood. The table top is lifted up from the legs with brass details, formed as a two centimetres high cylinder to get a light impression.
The tables are originally designed as part of the interior of Livsrum Odense, a counseling center for cancer patients and relatives, which Frier Architecture is also the architect of. The idea was to contribute to a general feel of warmth, being at home and creating a positive mood.
