LucidiPevere: Gerla / 128
LucidiPevere have created the Gerla range of seating for Very Wood with backs that recall traditional wicker baskets. A mass-produced object that incorporates a number of handcrafted processes.
Talking about their Gerla chair, Paolo Lucidi and Luca Pevere recounted, “Our studio is located close to an industrial area that until a few years ago produced about 30% of the world’s wooden chairs. We wanted to come up with a wooden seat that was unrelated to the sector, designed and produced in a completely different way with respect to traditional carpentry.”
They succeeded by creating a module, a form that could convey both artisan skill and the warmth of wood and able to function aesthetically either alone or as part of a composition. It is an element produced industrially using hot bending that is then assembled by hand and can be repeated to create larger backs giving rise to an entire range.
