A glass lamp blown through the hollowed branches of a tree and a collection of industrial bottles transformed into one-off pieces are just some of the projects by students from Karlsruhe.

At the Salone for the sixth time, the Karlsruhe school of design decided to bring a selection of designs by students linked by a common thread: the unconventional use of objects.
Lisa Ertel's lamp made from the branch of a tree raises nature to the level of co-designer. The glass shade is blown directly through the hollowed wood.

9 System by Martha Schwindling meanwhile is an interlocking system that enables the creation of different product types: coat-rack, space-divider, trestle. For small spaces. Laura Jungmann and Cornelius Réer have transformed a series of mass-produced bottles into one-off pieces, reblowing the glass to give it a new shape. SameSame is an experiment that shows an alternative and sustainable approach to design with respect to the industrial one.
