BD: Doshi e Levien / 85

The Anglo-Indian duo was asked to add to the cabinet collection of BD, a company that believes firmly in the relevance of this previously sidelined furnishing type.

Doshi e Levien
This Spanish company continues to focus on small cabinets with a strong personality. After Multileg (Jaime Hayon), Tout Va Bien (Antoine et Manuel) and Free Port (Martí Guixé) comes the turn of Nipa Doshi and Jonathan Levien, their second design experience with BD, after Chandlo.

Doshi e Levian, Shanty
Shanty is a patchwork of corrugated surfaces that, in the collective imagination, references improvised dwellings in the poorest parts of the world, from Brazil to Africa and India, and celebrates the beauty of these seemingly temporary constructions.

The corrugated facade looks like a spontaneous composition of different coloured surfaces; instead, it is a rationally studied and carefully considered storage space.

The body is asymmetric and each door has a different opening. The finishes also differ. Doshi and Levien have designed two versions of their cabinet: Shanty Summer and Shanty Winter, which are more or less colourful, adopting the same logic that governs fashion collections. There is also a Shanty Black with a brass leg finish and other versions in black and white.

They can be accessorised with a new system of mirrors that lends itself to different compositions.
