An exhibition at Imm Cologne organized by Frankfurt University HFG of Main tells the story of design objects, the moment of originality of a serial product.

In process
Design objects are not like archaeological artefacts that are discovered, grubbed out and then unriddled.
Design objects always relate to their social, technical and functional context. This context constitutes the particular story of the design product.

The product, in the smaller sense, always relates to a multitude of operations that were necessary to establish the original idea for the product. The design product is then being reproduced using this idea (which is often incorporated by a model or prototype). The specific constellation of techniques, materials and the designer himself that constitute the design process are the moment of originality of the the serial product. Thus “In process” exhibits the process (as a story) that is containing this moment of originality.
