The group of independent industrial and product designers departed from the idea of a traditional rug, using the traditional fringes — Fanion, in French — in a contemporary, graphical way.
The fringes are thus stylised, becoming a graphic addition to only a section of the carpets. Their direction creates an illusion, and the rugs become extruded 3D shapes.
BKS defines Fanion as "a contemporary vision of traditional rugs", where this optical illusion adds an extra dimension to the woolen felt surfaces. The Fanion series comprises three CNC-cut felt rugs of deep colours and dense materiality, which the designers point out create "a warm atmosphere" in domestic spaces.
