Turkish practice OSO Architecture has just completed the new headquarters of eBay within My Office Building, Istanbul. The office occupies an entire floor of 2000 square metres with a ceiling height of over 5 metres. In line with the global trend of modern offices, the architects opted for an open space in which the lobby, offices' area, meeting rooms and service areas are located. < br />
The entrance hall was designed as a charming and inviting space, made even more comfortable by the natural wood of floor, ceiling and reception desk. The wooden pergola provides a strong visual relationship with the common spaces behind the entrance. This "social" area is the only to be seen by visitors together with meeting rooms, and it's used by employees for special occasions. It also features a cafeteria, a library and projection screens, acting as am "agora" where people interact with each other. A terrace connected to this area also works as a possible smoking area.
The open space accommodates up to 225 work positions. The design of the ceiling has been carefully devised to overcome the typical acoustic problems of an open space, and comes with an irrational alternation of lighting and acoustic panels. "Monotony and order are here replaced by a chaotic and colourful design that enhances the perception of the entire height of the space", said the architects. "On the other hand, the circle pattern of the carpet, used also in other branch offices, underlines the company's visual identity".
