I have always reflected upon how blind people see through sound. Weeks ago, my little boy stuck his tiny finger in my eye, scratching the cornea, and I had to keep my eye patched and closed for 48 hours. My left eye soon tired of working for both, so I stayed home to rest.

With my eyes closed, my brain filled with images: memories randomly evoked by sounds. The experience reminded me of reading Proust's À la recherche du temps perdu and his famous madeleine.

Even though Buenos Aires has changed so much in the last 30 years, I recognized sounds that were familiar to me from my childhood. The sounds transported me, just as a particular smell can awake a deep felt memory.

I heard the song of a bird that sounds like a chainsaw (I remember as a child asking myself where the carpenter-shop was? I didn't know of any…and...why they were working and making so much noise on a Sunday morning?).

I also heard the planes that cross the sky on their way to Ezeiza, Argentina's International Airport. When I was little we lived under one of the planes' routes and I remember that we often had to interrupt telephone conversations and wait until the plane passed.

Buenos Aires has changed; the world has changed; yet so many things are still persist… This experience was interesting. Try it, just close your eyes...and see.

ZZK. Based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, ZZK Records is the heart of the new global genre Cumbia Digital. Principals Villa Diamante and El G came together at a time when the experimental cumbia scene was bubbling up and decided to start a weekly club night called Zizek Urban Beats Club, or Zizek for short. Shortly after they took the plunge into the music industry and decided to start ZZK Records, on the strength of the music that was coming out of the weekly nightclub. Their first album was a compilation of 17 tracks from producers performing regularly at Zizek. They looked for a genre to define this new sound but couldn't find one, so they gave it the moniker Cumbia Digital. Three years later ZZK sonic search has opened the door as wide as South America itself and now embarks on many rhythms and sound from all across the continent.

Since 2004 Villa Diamante has used the mashup as a tool to experiment with music, genres and cultural icons, from a DJ format where multicultural and mainstream sounds mix, tech hip hop and electro reggaeton, digital cumbia, dancehall, dubstep or whatever inspires him. As resident DJ and host of Zizek Club, he promotes the mixture of styles and supports artists, DJs and producers who reinterpret different sounds of modern music from a local angle, in order to create a "laboratory of dance."

Grant C. Dull (pronounced duel), first came to Argentina in 1999 and reinvented himself more than once, going from musicologist and online magazine editor, to visual artist for events and finally to the curator and DJ known as El G. He is also founder of the bilingual cultural website WhatsUpBuenosAires.com.

Leandro Erlich was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1973. He has participated in the Whitney Biennial and represented Argentina at the 49th Venice Biennale (2001). Erlich has had solo exhibitions at venues such as the Centre d'Art Santa Mònica, Barcelona (2003), MACRO Museo d'Arte Contemporanea Roma (2006), Le Grand Café - Centre D'art Contemporain de Saint-Nazaire, France (2005), and Albion Gallery, London (2005). In 2001, Erlich presented a major architectural installation entitled "Neighbors: An Installation by Leandro Erlich" at the El Museo del Barrio, New York.
Erlich's works are in several private and public collections including the Museum of Modern Art, Buenos Aires; The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; Tate Modern, London; Musee d'Art moderne, Paris; 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, Japan; MACRO, Rome; and The Israel Museum, Jerusalem; Fonds national d'art contemporain (FNAC), Paris.

N-RON is an artist and producer based in Brooklyn, NY. Recent releases include collaborations with DJ /rupture, DJ Small Change, Geko Jones, Anti-pop consortium and Vito Acconci. N-RON's The Collaborator was voted a best mixtape of 2007 by Kid Kameleon in XLR8R magazine. His sound has been heard at the The New Museum, Guggenheim Museum NY, Centre Georges Pompediou, Temporary Contemporary Gallery, London, TN Probe, Tokyo and at festivals such as Pireneos Sur, Spain, Berlin Film festival and on the radio in Antarctica.
