The name Kundan refers to a form of Indian gemstone jewellery that uses sequences of geometric shapes.
Similar motifs are also used to embellish the mud constructed interiors of nomadic homes in Kutch, a district in the Indian state of Gujarat, often combined with mirror inlay bringing natural light into the space.

A rhythmic and melodic composition of mirrors adorning the Kundan cabinet are combined with occasional numeric symbols referencing the mathematical logic of pattern and pictorial symbols, including the lotus flower, that have cultural significance.
