A picture of Iran today through art

Art, cinema, literature, music as well as comic strips. These are the heterogeneous ingredients that make up a series of events planned at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in April with the aim of offering an all round view of contemporary Iranian creativity.

Selected by curator Rose Issa, the artists are all Iranian and all work between Tehran, Los Angeles, London, Paris and Berlin. The have in common the need to reflect on their identity and the traditions of their homeland as well as to ‘metabolise’ the experience of exile, as well as a desire to explore as much as possible the confines between politics and culture.

They include film director Abbas Kiarostami, artist Shirin Neshat and cartoonist Marjane Satrapi.E.S.
