Materialegno

A new magazine on wood included with the March issue of Domus.

March issue of Domus will come with Materialegno, a new cultural and technical magazine devoted to wood and its uses in architecture. Edited by Alberto Alessi and put together with a range of international contributions, it is published by the Promolegno association. It is principally directed towards Italian architects and designers and aims to inform readers about the new possibilities offered by the application of modern technology to wood, presenting a wide selection of the best designs alongside international scientific and cultural contributions.

The magazine includes information on the sustainability and the renewability of wood, as well as on building processes, fire protection, wood's acoustic climate, and noise pollution. The preservation of wood already in use, its application in the modern day city and in vertical construction, and its durability are also covered. There are is widespread prejudice in Italy surrounding the use of the material for building, and this has held back its spread up to now. Its environmental sustainability, however, allied to the outstandingly comfortable living conditions and the large energy savings it offers, makes wood one of the materials of the future.
