Welcome to your city!

Thanks to aberrant architecture & House of Jonn, five of Selfridges store's Wonder Windows in London, will become home to an interactive city inspired by the public.

For two weeks during the 2010 London Festival of Architecture (20 June – 20 July, 2010), five of Selfridges store's Wonder Windows will become home to an evolving interactive city inspired by the public. London architects Aberrant architecture and creative studio House of Jonn will present a joint pop-up residency in the shop window and are inviting the public to send images and messages describing what they love and loathe about life in London. The final installation will present, through the giant cityscape, a new and intimate vision of multicultural London.

The combined work, 'Welcome To Your City' will see conversations with members of the public turned into customised shoebox housing units. Each one of these homes will come to represent something about each contributing passer-by; their nationality, personal story or unique take on London. Over the course of the residency, each of these homes will be placed together to create a gigantic cityscape that will grow and intensify as it welcomes more and more inhabitants, eventually evolving into a collaborative vision of an alternative London.

To help with this task the team are asking people to email, their name, where they are from, and a picture and message outlining what they love, or loathe, about life in the capital. Go to www.thehospitalclub.com, and click on the Selfridges section to send in your contributions. Beatrice Galilee
