With Laser Blade XS “The Blade” iGuzzini take a new step towards the miniaturisation of light fittings, making available to architects an almost ‘invisible’ device.
The extensive research into miniaturisation common throughout the world of technology has redefined design standards, that also have to address the need to guarantee the same high performance as traditional devices.
A new frontier on this landscape has now been established with Laser Blade XS “The Blade” by iGuzzini: a technological evolution within the world of lighting that has been achieved through the optimisation and miniaturisation of the components, with the aim of creating solutions that are functional, effective and high on design content, therefore perfectly integrated in the architectural project.
Surgical precision in the diffusion of light, maximum compactness in terms of dimensions, extreme visual comfort, invisibility of the light source and a wide range of shapes (linear and square) are the chief characteristics of the new product, that is part of the larger Laser Blade range. Characterised by its minimalist design, thanks to the miniaturisation of the electrical and optical components, Laser Blade XS “The Blade” is a solution with extremely reduced dimensions: just 28 mm wide. It is a product that enables to respond to specific needs to obtain an asymmetric light to illuminate vertical surfaces or high contrast light with different sized cones available (24°, 36°, 55°).
The configuration with the narrower cone concentrates light on horizontal surfaces such as tables, floors or shelves and is therefore proposed as an accent light able for example to enhance objects displayed against dark walls. At the opposite end, the larger cone of light provides more general lighting. Both versions guarantee optimal visual comfort thanks to the set-back position of the LEDs. As well as the particular conformation of the optics system it creates a circular light distribution that is perfectly even, without effects of multiple shadows. Laser Blade XS “The Blade” is the smallest wall-washer in the world to offer this kind of performance.
Available in two models (High Contrast and Wall Washer) and a wide range of finishes (white, black, gold and grey), that enable the product to adapt to many applicative needs, Laser Blade XS “The Blade” features the innovative Tunable White technology. This system regulates colour temperature or rather its variation of white (from 2700K to 5700K), thus improving people’s psychological wellbeing thanks to the possibility of obtaining a rich and dynamic light from a spectral point of view, similar to natural one. At the same time, the colour rendition is significant (IRC >90), also for warm tones such as red. Thanks to the invisibility of the source that provides the light, Laser Blade XS “The Blade” has an almost non-existent visual impact, making it particularly suitable for applications in the world of retail, hospitality and living.
The international launch of Laser Blade XS “The Blade”, curated by Gruppo TBWA Italia, was based on the concept of “your own blade”, used to stage a series of events, the first of which was held in London at the Sky Garden on 2 March. The marketing concept was based on the idea that The Blade is not only a system of lighting but a vision: a personal interpretation of the system that the guests of the launch event – architects, designers and trade journalists – were called on to express and performer Francesco Guerrara to interpret on canvas, using a cutting technique. During the performance the artist, connected with the interview area, transformed into a work of art in real time suggestions made by the public. Images of the canvases and videos of the events that emerge from the project #yourownblade will then appear on iGuzzini social channels. Other events were held in Berlin, Paris, Sydney, Lyon, Shanghai, Auckland, and New York scheduled after the summer. As a testimony to the success of the design, just two months after being launched on the market, Laser Blade XS “The Blade” won the important Interior Luminaire of the Year at the 2017 Lighting Design Awards in London, one of the key events in the world of lighting design.
