Domus Sri Lanka, July–August 2015
This issue of Domus Sri Lanka is a tribute to the late architect Geoffrey Bawa, one of the most celebrated architects of Sri Lanka.

In commemorating his birthday that falls on July 23rd, the entire issue is on the career and influence of Goeffrey Bawa and in turn is the first edition to comprise only of Sri Lankan articles. A legacy of redefining architecture, explores some of the architect’s most influential work that marks the milestones of his career and includes such work as the monumental national parliament and Lunuganga gardens – a career-spanning personal project. In Geoffrey Bawa and contemporary Sri Lankan identity, five individuals both distantly and closely associated with the late architect, discuss the importance and influence of his work.

Among three projects featured Kandalama – 20 years on, presents the importance of Bawa’s most recognised hotel project that remains as one of the earliest achievements in sustainability architecture in the country and the region. In addition, Ruhuna University and Tower at Alexandra Place are among the work that reveal the architects versatility and innovative prowess in tackling diverse projects. A way of drawing explores the evolution of drawing, and the benchmark set in how architecture is perceived and presented on paper. Bawa’s Bentota further highlights the architect’s influence in transforming the architectural landscape in creating a tourist village in the southwest coast of Sri Lanka.
