Nendo: Camper New York

The Japanese design studio creates a Camper store in New York where all walls are invaded by a resin cast of the Pelotas shoe.

Japanese design studio Nendo has recently completed a Camper store in New York, following on a "shoes that walk freely through the air" concept that was previously developed for the Spanish brand's small shops in Osaka, Paris, San Francisco, Moscow, among others.

For this retail space, which had more generous dimensions, the studio sought to use the upper part of a high-ceilinged space. "Our new approach was to make white resin models of the Pelotas shoe, a Camper stalwart, then to fully decorate walls with them," state Nendo, pointing out that this strategy allows the space to gain volume, while remaining organised and well-ordered.

"The shoes catch light pouring through the windows to cast shadows on the walls, giving the space a three-dimensional texture," state the designers. "We've created a shop interior with two types of shoes: products and interior materials."
