Domus China, July 2017

In the first Confetti column, there are two exhibitions held in two Italian museums respectively. For the 300th anniversary of Johann Joachim Winckelmann’s birth, the m.a.x. museo of Chiasso dedicates to this German master of classical culture an important exhibition focusing on his fundamental work. Together with a small display called “Scarpa e il Giappone”, MAXXI in Rome also shows visitors an important retrospective on Japan’s single-family houses displaying a different way of living. When it comes to the new design museums, the founder and director of the TDM, Silvana Annicchiarico tells us something about this Milan museum’s current formula. An article about the Crosettas details the phases and dynamics of this family business’s 25-year course and its new evolutions under the banner of innovation.

Creative Talents introduces four Chinese architects and one furniture designer. We have architect Jin Xin from FANAF, Fan Jiujiang from Continuation Studio, Sun Haochen and Zhang Lei from Muxin Design. Each of them expresses their design concepts and provides us with three to five completed projects. And the furniture designer Alex Chai from grado supplies us a lot of his extraordinary projects through pictures, sketches and scenes. These people are the future of Chinese architecture and design, and Domus China will introduce more of this new blood in the coming issues.

In the Projects part, you will find two renovation projects and one new building. The 2012 Pritzker Architecture Prize winner, Chinese architect Wang Shu and Lu Wenyu attentively studied the layout of Wencun village in China and regenerated this place with 24 dwelling. Kenneth Frampton also expressed his opinion about this project. Besides, Caruso St John Architects gives a new birth to a former industrial area and makes it into the campus of LYCÉE HÔTELIER in France. In Portugal, José Paulo dos Santos used designed a new building that serves as a conservatory and secondary school.
